In our monthly Table Talk series, we gather a few food-and-drink-related headlines into one place for your convenience. From new local restaurants to menu additions and beyond, here’s what we’ve got our eye on this month.

Fresco Closing Their Doors

After years of serving downtown Corpus Christi some of the best lonches, quesadillas and Frito pies in the area, Fresco will be closing their doors. The local establishment posted the announcement on its social media pages stating, “We put all we had to make this place what it is today – we did so many things through Fresco that we never knew were possible and it’s been absolutely fulfilling being able to feed all the homies for as long as we have.” For one last farewell, head to Fresco during ArtWalk this Friday, September 2, to enjoy some quesadillas and an agua fresca.

Islander’s Teriyaki Soft Opening

If you’re a fan of teriyaki, boba and more, you’re in luck. Islander’s Teriyaki, located at the intersection of Ocean Dr. and Ennis Joslin, launched its soft opening this week. Conveniently located around the corner from the university, the restaurant brings a new food option to students and residents in the area.

Roasted Coffee Partnering with Sugarbakers

Who doesn’t like a snack with their morning coffee (or afternoon cup, no judgment here)? The good news is that Roasted Coffee Shop has partnered with the iconic Sugarbakers Bistro to deliver customers freshly made, delicious sandwich options at the coffee shop.

Executive Surf Club Remodeling, Continuing to Serve Food

The news has been out for a while, but the time has come for Surf Club’s remodel. The iconic downtown spot will be under construction starting September 6th, continuing to operate out of a temporary location just a few doors down at the old Seafood Company building while renovations take place.

Wallbangers Moving to Southside

After 39 years in their current location, Wallbangers is making moves (to the Southside). The new location will occupy what was Montana Mike’s on S. Staples. Once renovations to update the space are complete, the beloved restaurant will continue to serve delicious burgers and beers, with an added full-service bar at the new location. The move is expected to happen by November.

Hester’s Strawberry Cream Scones

This isn’t a new menu item, but you might be able to find it more regularly now. Hester’s strawberry cream scones, one of the most delicious treats in the area, are now available every Saturday for your brunch enjoyment.

New Social Hour Menu Items at Dokyo Dauntaun

Dokyo has introduced a few new items to its Social Hour menu, which is served every day from 4 to 6 p.m. The new items include Yakitori, a delicious Japanese skewered chicken dish, grilled to perfection and glazed in a homemade sauce.

Tannin’s Rolling Out New Liquor Menu

Tannin’s Wine Bar & Tapas has introduced liquor to the menu, expanding its already delicious round-up of drinks. While finalizing the liquor menu, you can expect to see new drinks rolling out weekly, like the “The Spa” and the “Skinny Pica-Rita” which made a debut last week.

New BKK Southside Roll

BKK has crafted a new fried sushi roll at its Southside location, fittingly called “The South Side.” The delicious new tempura roll includes seared tuna, cream cheese, avocado, serrano and krab.
