Prepare to be amazed and inspired Oct. 9 – 14 when Plein Air artists from around the country descend upon New Braunfels for the Two Rivers Plein Air event brought to you by the New Braunfels Art League. Plein Air refers to painting outdoors away from the four walls of an art studio. At the event, you’ll see artists setting up their easels downtown, along our two rivers, the Comal and Guadalupe, Gruene, Wurstfest, Landa Park and the list goes on. As a spectator, make it an artist scavenger hunt to see how many you can find. Combine sightseeing with art viewing!
Witnessing a painting in the making is fascinating! In a few hours, a blank canvas is transformed into a beautiful work of art! And the same scene may be painted by multiple artists with the end result always being unique and one-of-a-kind. It’s truly amazing!
Two Rivers Plein Air will kick off Oct. 9 with a Quick Draw event at Krause’s Cafe in downtown New Braunfels. Artists will have two hours to create a masterpiece. The buzzer will sound at 3 p.m. to begin. At 5 p.m., all brushes must go down! No pressure! Enjoy a beer or two while you watch.
Oct. 10 -13 is the main event where painters will disperse all over New Braunfels and Gruene to create as many pieces of art as they can before the submission deadline at noon, Oct. 13! The public is encouraged to join in the fun. Find artists and interact with them as they go about their artistic endeavors!
At 5 p.m. on Oct. 13, Two Rivers Plein Air will wrap up with a reception and awards ceremony at the New Braunfels Art League from 5 – 8 p.m. Enjoy a glass of wine, meet the artists, admire their talent and, if you fall in love with a piece(s) of art, make a purchase so you can continue to admire it! Be sure to do so before 2 p.m. on Oct. 14 when art not sold will be packed up and taken home by the artists.
