Splendid Aviation’s roots trace back to when founder and owner Terrance Davis, inspired by a friend’s desire to fly, seized an opportunity during the pandemic. This aviation enthusiast and a group of buddies rented an aircraft out of Kleberg County Airport and initially formed a flying club. However, the demand for accessible, quality aviation experiences quickly pivoted the endeavor into a flight school.
Before Splendid Aviation, Corpus Christi presented a challenge for those eager to explore aviation. Despite the abundance of talent, the availability to rent or fly an aircraft is limited. The organization sought to change this, offering a tailored experience to individuals who aspired to become airline pilots or pursue other aviation dreams. “Corpus has a lot of talent here,” Davis said, “experienced pilots and maintenance workers, but the area is a desert for aviation.”
Drawing inspiration from the military, particularly the Navy and Marine Corps, Splendid Aviation adopted a teaching style that individualizes the learning experience for each student. With this focus, it’s creating a community to connect with other aviation enthusiasts, be it as a hobby or profession.
The ready room serves as more than just a study space — it’s a place to hang out, fostering a sense of community and networking opportunities that surpass initial expectations. “We’re here to connect people with aviation,” said Davis of the community being built within the organization.
Splendid Aviation aims to democratize aviation, offering three routes for individuals to engage with their passion: signing up for classes to obtain a Private Pilot License, renting an aircraft for flights or engaging with the club as a member and enjoying the environment. Some students have even bought an aircraft while working toward their license, and Splendid Aviation allows members to rent an aircraft after obtaining their PPL.
