Roaming Gardens is a specialty flower farm and design studio in cultivating beauty via mindful gardening practices, delivering South Texas florals to the region. Offering seasonal flowers, Roaming Gardens sprouted when Jennifer Vyvlecka started selling produce at the Downtown Farmers’ Market — attributing her success to making connections with the community and having something distinctive to offer.
Growing flowers and vegetables is nothing new to Vyvlecka, who shares that this passion started at a young age. “My whole childhood revolved around growing things. I was probably nine when I remember using seeds from my mother’s garden and purposely planting my own, and it never stopped,” she said. “Going to college, I always rented apartments with balconies, and I grew stuff from my balconies. Flowers have always been a part of my garden; whether we were growing vegetables or not, I always grew flowers because I love them.”
After one local business held a fundraiser for a cancer patient, Vyvlecka delivered a bag of vegetables and a flower bouquet to support the family during a difficult time. This small act of kindness evolved into what Roaming Gardens is today. This one-woman show offers seasonal growings and customized bouquets and floral arrangements with tasteful color palettes and style based on what’s growing in her garden.
Roaming Gardens is truly a hidden South Texas gem, and can help elevate a space sustainably with locally grown floral arrangements and bouquets for those looking to spruce up their home, office or next event. Operating on pre-orders or inquiries on Instagram, Vyvlecka has developed a business structure based on trust.
“It’s just me doing it, sowing all the seeds and harvesting and delivering. I get to know my customers and what their style is. Usually, the people that contact me have been following me for a good amount of time and trust the process,” Vyvlecka said. “Being an artist, the highest compliment to give someone is to say, ‘I trust you; do what you do.'”
Floral fans can find the farmer’s choice of seasonal bouquets at Wildflowers and Bien Mérité. Roaming Gardens will also be part of the vendor lineup for Festive 56, an annual holiday pop-up hosted by Indigo Lane and Oh Goodie Designs, offering holiday-style wreaths and other floral decors.
One scroll through Roaming Gardens’ Instagram page shows just how dedicated Vyvlecka is to her craft. More than just locally grown flowers, the business she has created serves as a reminder that beauty can be found everywhere — even in something as small as a floral bouquet.
