The Charity League of Corpus Christi, a local non-profit groupbrof 40 women, has been focused on doing charitable work in ourbrcommunity since 1934. Each year, they choose a local non-profit to raise money and advocate for the entire year, from fundsbrraised by the public. This year, Timon’s Ministries was chosen forbr“their hard work and the difference they make in the community,” says Michell Ezell, President of Charity League.br

Timon’s Ministries, located in Flour Bluff, opened for business inbrJune of 2000 and is under the direction of Kae Berry. The goal ofbrthe faith-based day resource center is to help low-income families and the homeless get back on their feet by providing dailybrmeals, a place where they can shower, a food pantry, laundrybrservices, and free medical, dental, and vision services.br

br

Timon’s clients are predominantly the working poor, although 15 percent consist of the chronic homeless. Each week, hot mealsbrare served to about 80-100 guests, Monday through Friday.brTimon’s also operates a Crisis Pantry that distributes between 2-3brtons of groceries into the local community.br

br

In addition to the feeding services, Timon’s also provides healthbrservices to all low- or no-income individuals in the community. The William Allen Dental Clinic opened in 2009, and thanks to the tireless work of volunteer dentists, over 3,400 patientsbrthroughout the Coastal Bend have been treated. In 2011,brTimon’s began offering monthly eye care services free of charge, brand family medicine was integrated into the health arm of thebrministry in 2012.br

Local clients have access to medical treatment three days perbrweek, to help with unresolved health issues, via an in-housebrmedical doctor. The in-house nurse is on board 5 days weekly. The medical center has been very successful and has thus farbrgained 2,500 patient charts within the parameters whom Timon’sbrserves. All of the services provided by Timon’s were made possible by various grants including the Howell Foundation and thebrMethodist Healthcare Ministries.br

br

The grant, written to Charity League earlier this year, focusedbron raising funds to expand the building to add more showersbrand laundry facilities. “A lot of people don’t understand that justbrbecause you have a home, doesn’t mean you have a place to dobrlaundry,” says Kae Berry.br

br

Timon’s received the much-anticipated phone call from thebrCharity League in early September, announcing their selection asbrthis year’s charity. In May of 2020, Timon’s will receive a checkbrfor 100 percent of all monies raised at the Charity League’s annual Style Show & Luncheon in February.br

br

Kae Berry is grateful and excited to work with such a well-brthought-out, organized, and extremely professional organization, brand looks forward to the improvements for Timon’s Ministries.br
