A&A Mexican Boutique, a celebration of Mexican culture and artisan craftsmanship, was founded by Norma Angelica Alvarez and Angelica Alvarez. The shop bursts with the vibrant colors characteristic of traditional Mexican garments, and the rich scent of handmade leather accessories fills the air. Just in time for the holiday season, shoppers can experience the beauty and authenticity of products typically only found in Mexico, right here in the Coastal Bend.
For 20 years, Norma Alvarez dedicated her life to raising her three children as a stay-at-home mom. With them pursuing careers of their own, the time has come to pursue her own dreams. “I’ve always wanted a business of my own. Now that the kids are grown, I can share what I’m passionate about, which is my culture,” she explained.
Over coffee, Norma and Angelica reconnected and discovered a shared vision: to establish a boutique that celebrated the authentic artistry of Mexico. Their goal was to showcase genuine, culturally inspired creations, steering clear of mass-produced imitations. This passion led them to partner and bring their vision to life.
Every item inside A&A Mexican Boutique tells a story. The embroidered blouses are hand-stitched, using traditional fabrics like manta, which is a 100% natural, unbleached cotton fabric. Leather purses and handmade shoes are sourced directly from Mexico, ensuring authenticity in every single detail. You can even find accessories that are handmade by the owners. However, the store’s deeper purpose goes beyond the products themselves: It aims to honor and uplift the hands that make them.
“[These makers and artisans] work so hard, and that work often goes unseen, so we wanted to bring it here for people to see its value,” Norma shared.
The boutique’s mission extends to reviving traditions in the younger generation that may have lost touch with them. “We want to bring back that tradition for the girls who maybe want to represent the culture the way they grew up seeing their moms and grandmas did, so we want to pass it down, instead of it being forgotten,” Angelica explained.
