Every week, the Covarrubiaz family chooses a wine from their home selection to pair with one of their late grandmother’s recipes. They consider how certain wines complement the different flavors of the dishes and create a “wine and delight” match from there. This family tradition has paved the way for what is now one of the newest wine bars in Corpus Christi, D’Canters Wine & Delights.
This family business first opened its doors in November of 2017. The original concept was to only serve wine, but the family decided to broaden their selection to cocktails and beer in order to cater to non-wine drinking customers. Their main vision is simple: create a unique experience for the people of the Coastal Bend through a relaxing atmosphere, quality service, top notch drinks, and specials that are way too good to pass up.
The Covarrubiaz’s attention to detail is evident in the bar’s surroundings. D’Canters mixes hip and classy with their inviting and comfortable atmosphere. All of the bar furniture is made or refurnished by the family, which definitely adds a local touch to the establishment.
The bar prides itself with having one of the best wine selections in the Coastal Bend. Influenced by the family’s experience and taste in wine, they have the best of everything for any type of palate. With bartenders who are all well trained and informed in all things wine, it’s impossible to have a bad wine experience at D’Canters.
A delicious menu of appetizers and wine trays, including their Italian Tray and Latina Spice Tray, complement their wide selection of drinks. They serve brunch, partnered with delicious mimosas and their crowd favorite, Bloody Marys, every Sunday. On Wednesdays, they offer half-price on select bottles of wine. They also have daily and happy hour specials on liquor and wine. To further sweeten the deal, D’Canters has live music, ranging from jazz to acoustic, almost every night!
