With so many worthy causes and organizations to support, participating in a local 5k, 10k or half marathon is a great way to exercise with a purpose far beyond individual physical and mental wellness. Here is our roundup of fall 5k races and the organizations they support so you can start training to participate!

October 1st: 2022 Coastal Bend Heart Walk

While this 5k route isn’t a run, the 2022 Coastal Bend Heart Walk is a great opportunity to boost your heart health while simultaneously benefitting the American Heart Association. Each year the American Heart Association raises funds that ultimately save the lives of kids born with congenital heart defects, adults struggling with heart disease, train others in CPR, fund stroke research and ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare. That’s a lot of change that can happen by just participating in The Heart Walk at Whataburger Field.  To learn more and register for the walk, visit the website.

October 22nd: Great Strides Walk

The Great Strides Walk benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will take place at Cole Park and follow a 5k route around downtown. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation exists to fight this disease by funding medical and scientific progress that develops treatments thus adding years of life for those battling Cystic Fibrosis. Thanks to the work of the foundation, the life expectancy of those born with Cystic Fibrosis has doubled in the last 30 years. Grab a friend and join the walk to fight for a world free of cystic fibrosis.

November 5th: Harbor Half

The Harbor Half has been named the “highest half in Texas” for a reason. This half marathon, which also has 5k and 10k options, takes runners on a tour of the Coastal Bend through historic downtown, across the harbor bridge, down the scenic Nueces Bay and finishes at Whataburger Field. All proceeds from the Harbor Half Marathon & Relay will benefit Junior Achievement of the Coastal Bend, which delivers immersive learning experiences in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship through community volunteers who share their own life experiences with students. To register for the run or become a volunteer, visit the website.

November 13th: 12th Annual Miles for Meals 5k Run/Walk

The Miles for Meals 5k Run/Walk will begin at Water’ Edge Park and take you on a scenic view of the Corpus Christi Bayfront. This run benefits the Coastal Bend Food Bank, specifically raising awareness and funds for the CBFB Kid’s Backpack Program. This program provides a bag of nutritious food each Friday during the school year for children who identify as food insecure in order to have food during the weekends and holidays. There are multiple categories to enter including a kids 1k, a 5k run and a 5k walk. Visit the CBFB website to register, donate or become a sponsor.
