K Space Contemporary is proudly presenting the 2022 Third Coast Biennial, with an opening reception on Friday, July 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The national juried competition and exhibition will host a variety of contemporary works from around the United States, on display in the gallery from July 15 through August 26.
This year’s juror, Mark L. Smith will give a gallery talk and present the awards of the show at 6:30 pm on July 15. “I was impressed by the quality of the works submitted. Most showed a high range of talent and excellence in concept and in presentation. Also, I was encouraged that so many of the artists addressed current social issues in their work. It is difficult for any artist juror to eliminate good works that one likes personally. One must choose between respect and pleasure. There is a finite amount of space for the exhibition, so, not all outstanding works could be included. Hopefully, there is some aesthetic coherence to those selected, a commonality of beauty, intelligence, craftsmanship and mindfulness,” said Smith on the selection process.
With more than 552 works from 199 artists submitted for consideration, 53 works by 50 artists were chosen for this year’s exhibition. A handful of Coastal Bend artists, such as Greg Reuter, Joshua Duttweiler, Louis Katz, Victoria Livingston and Christian Stiles are featured. You can view the exhibition at K Space Contemporary Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 am to 5 pm, and Sundays 12 to 4 pm. Admission is free. The exhibition will also soon be available for online viewing.
