Corpus Christi Water's COO Michael Murphy discusses upcoming projects in the Coastal Bend

Merry Christmas! I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Michael Murphy, and I am the Chief Operations Officer for Corpus Christi Water Utilities. A little bit about me: I hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Texas Tech University (Wreck’em, Tech!). I’m a registered Professional Engineer and have 37 years in administrative leadership in public works, specifically in water and wastewater.

Under the direction of the Mayor, City Council and City Manager, I’m very pleased to report on several projects Water Utilities is currently working on to better serve the residents of Corpus Christi. These projects include bringing two elevated water storage tanks back online; structural and operational improvements to all six of the city’s wastewater treatment plants; and moving the proposed seawater desalination plant project forward for the purpose of providing a drought proof water supply for the region.

Another one of my priorities is being a friend next-door. My newly instituted Good Neighbor Program is a commitment to the community that Water Utilities will take ownership of its facilities, by keeping our areas neat and clean.

I’ve been Water Utilities COO for six months, and during that time, I’ve become a proud citizen of Corpus Christi. There’s nothing I enjoy more than sitting on the beach and enjoying the warm breeze. The welcoming spirit of the Coastal Bend has been wonderful. Corpus Christi has embraced my family and I with open arms. We are extremely happy to call this beautiful area home.

On behalf of everyone at Water Utilities, best wishes for a safe holiday season and Happy New Year!
