Since its founding in 1934, the Charity League of Corpus Christi has woven a legacy of dedication and impact across the Coastal Bend, championing causes that uplift and transform lives. Each season, the Charity League doesn’t just fundraise—it steps into the heart of its chosen charity’s mission, advocating, collaborating and raising awareness for the cause.

This year, the philanthropic powerhouse of 40 committed women has chosen to support West Side Helping Hand, a community-based organization whose mission aligns seamlessly with the League’s values.

Founded to guide low-income youth toward pathways of success, West Side Helping Hand serves students from PreK3 through 12th grade with programs that embrace the dignity of each individual. Through academic support, character-building activities, organized sports and personal attention, the organization empowers children to grow not just as students but as well-rounded individuals. Parental engagement is also woven into the center’s approach, fostering a network of support that reinforces the strength of both family and community.

“Being chosen by the Charity League means West Side Helping Hand can have increased visibility, resources and community engagement,” shared the nonprofit’s executive director, Cindy Davila. “We are very fortunate to have this opportunity to heighten awareness of our mission and goals, and to be able to encourage more donations and volunteer involvement. Endorsements like this can help us expand our impact and further our efforts in supporting the community we serve.”

Looking to the future, West Side Helping Hand envisions a thriving community where at-risk youth are hopeful, driven and confident in their potential. The organization’s leaders are committed to evolving and expanding programs that resonate deeply with the practical needs of the families they serve.

“West Side Helping Hand really resonated with us,” said Charity League’s current president, Lesley Lomax. “They’re raising funds to build another facility, which would allow them to serve additional children. We receive applications from so many incredible organizations, and it’s always a thorough selection process, but we felt they were the right choice. The awareness we can bring to their mission is as valuable as the funds we raise.”

Davila agreed, emphasizing that Charity League’s fundraising will allow West Side Helping Hands to expand vital programs, strengthen its long-term sustainability and ultimately increase its capacity to serve more children and support families across the community.

“I can’t wait to see them break ground on the new facility and to imagine the kids’ excitement when it’s ready,” Lomax added. “West Side Helping Hand provides such valuable after-school support and the children they serve are so excited to be there. It’s wonderful we’ll be able to help them serve even more.”

Charity League estimates its members have raised over $5.5 million for organizations across the Coastal Bend—a total that will continue to grow as this year’s fundraising culminates in the Annual Spring Style Show & Luncheon.

Charity League’s fundraising season reaches its pinnacle at the Style Show & Luncheon, an event eagerly awaited each year for its exciting theme and designer reveal. This week, in collaboration with Julian Gold – Corpus Christi, Charity League announced this season’s highly anticipated theme and designer selection.

The “Chic in Palm Beach” theme will come to life with the expertise of Julian Gold – Corpus Christi’s store director, Alexa Gignac, who selected the Australian brand ALÉMAIS as the show’s featured designer. ALÉMAIS captures a modern spirit rooted in artistry and purpose, blending traditional craftsmanship with a strong commitment to social, environmental and ethical values.

With an adventurous aesthetic that draws on historical references, the brand reimagines unique textiles, hand-crafted embroideries and bold silhouettes for the contemporary wardrobe. Dedicated to responsible fashion, the brand prioritizes low-impact fibers like hemp, ramie and organic cotton, working toward a more sustainable future for both the industry and the planet.

“It’s always a pleasure working with Alexa and Julian Gold,” Lomax said. “I shared hints about our theme, and once it was finalized, Alexa immediately had the vision. ALÉMAIS embodies the ‘Chic in Palm Beach’ theme perfectly. I’m excited to see how she brings it all together for the show.”

The Annual Spring Style Show & Luncheon will be held on Feb. 27, 2025, at the American Bank Center. With 100% of proceeds from the event and the entire fundraising season benefiting West Side Helping Hand, it’s an opportunity to make a direct impact in the community.
