K Space Contemporary (KSC) is a 501c3 non-profit arts organization dedicated to presenting and promoting contemporary art. As a forum for creative exchange, education, and experimentation, KSC builds awareness for innovative art in South Texas. Our gallery and gift shop are located in downtown Corpus Christi.
The “K” in our name refers to the building’s historic roots as a Kress Five & Dime Store. Established in 2001 by key members of K Space Art Studios, K Space Contemporary opened its current street level location in 2007. To this day, we remain an artist-centric organization dedicated to providing a venue for emerging and mid-career artists to exhibit their work and further their careers.
Each year, KSC mounts 18-20 solo and group exhibitions in our three gallery galleries. Exhibitions are selected by our Exhibition Committee from proposals submitted by artists and curators. We welcome experimental, alternative works, unusual installations, and site-specific concepts.
Education Programs at KSC include a Summer Mural Art Program for teens, workshops, weekly figure drawing sessions, and outreach programming to K-12 classrooms, senior centers and non-profit partners. KSC education programs reach 3500+ per year. We have completed 16 public murals through our Mural Arts Program, most of them located in the downtown area including the one on our own building on Starr St.
KSC serves the broader community through our mural program and community events like Dia de los Muertos Festival (DDLM Fest). Our DDLM Fest draws tens of thousands of visitors each year. It features an art expo, live entertainment, fine art exhibitions, kids’ activities, community altar display and youth piñata contest. DDLM Fest has gained national attention as one of the largest DDLM celebrations in the US and was selected Best Fest in The Bend Magazine’s Local’s List 2016-2020.
Our hours are Wednesdays – Saturdays, 11am to 5 pm. We are also open additional hours during special events, downtown festivals, and the First Friday ArtWalk until 9 pm.
