Building a Home That’s “You”

One Corpus Christi family shares how they personalized their new home build—along with some of the things they learned in the process—so you can build your perfect home, too.

A complete vision

“We knew what we wanted in our dream home—and we didn’t want to settle.”

Jimmy and Marcia Plough had big plans for their new home with specific ideas for the entire house.

“Building our new home allowed us to choose the floor plan, the amenities, as well as the exterior and interior style we wanted,” said Marcia.

For the Ploughs, that meant:

  • A spacious kitchen—including an island, counter space, and more cabinets
  • A master bath with a separate shower and soaking tub, along with his and her sinks
  • An extended back patio and a front porch—ready to pick up the coastal breeze

And of course, lighting is always an important factor. “Windows, windows, windows!” said Marcia. “We love all our natural light!”

Tip: By being able to communicate their design wants early, the Ploughs were able to have conversations about what was possible and collaborate with their sales representative throughout the process.

Choosing the right neighborhood and builder

“They listened to us—and made us feel at ease.”

Jimmy and Marcia loved the Terra Mar neighborhood. Once they found a lot in the new subdivision, they decided to build with Hogan Homes. But it wasn’t location alone that cemented their decision.

Sales Manager Kelsey Renteria and Superintendent Rick Maxwell listened to any questions that came up and explained each step along the way.

“They were always available to answer our questions in a timely fashion,” said Marcia.

Beyond the excellent service of their sales representative and eventually their builder, the Ploughs had some personal experience with Hogan Homes in the past.

“This would be our second Hogan Home,” said Marcia. “Our first was in the Los Vientos subdivision at Terra Mar. We know they build a quality home.”

Tip: It’s important to start building trust with your home builder early. Ask yourself: Do they know the neighborhood/community? Are they available to answer questions? Can they break down the process so it’s simple for you?

Life in their new home

“It checks all the boxes: great neighbors, a peaceful place to live, and just feels like home.”

It’s been six months since their house was completed, and you can still feel the excitement.

“We love everything about our new Hogan Home,” said Marcia. “The natural light throughout the house is stellar.”

The Ploughs were able to find everything they needed in a home builder with Hogan Homes. As a local home builder that’s invested in strengthening the subdivisions and communities they serve, they’re building homes that meet customer needs and stand the test of time.

Tip: This one’s directly from Marcia:

“Listen to your heart and your gut!  When you build a new home, follow your vision, have fun picking out your amenities, and visualize yourself in your new home for years to come!”
