Alexa Obregon’s Go-To Beauty Products

When it comes to curls, our Coastal Bend humidity isn’t always on board. Here is how this local woman tames her hair and skin in the climates of Corpus

After moving from Austin to Corpus Christi, my daily routine stayed fairly consistent: Drink copious amounts of water, eat whole foods, exercise, and (mom’s voice in my head) ALWAYS moisturize. Smiling, surfing, and a good glass of wine help, too! However, I soon discovered I had to adjust for a new consideration. How do I tame these curls when the winds are howling and humidity levels regularly hover around the 90 percent mark? Sticking to my life-long discovery of rules for curly hair, some tough love from my Deva stylist, and a few slight adjustments to my products, I think I have finally landed on the perfect solution. With that out of the way, let’s load up the boards and check out the surf!

DevaCurl Super Cream
A little of this product goes a long way. After spending a few hours in the salt water, my hair tends to dry out. It provides just the right amount of weight to keep curls well-defined but still bouncy and light.
Product available at Ulta, $28

DevaCurl Shampoo & Conditioner (No-Poo Decadence/One Condition Delight)
The first piece of advice I received from my stylist was to stop shampooing my hair so often, and to make sure my products don’t contain sulfates. I now only shampoo about once a week, but condition regularly. Both these products fit the bill, are creamy and lather-free, and leave my hair feeling oh so soft.
Products available at Ulta, $24

Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion
It was love at first application with Kevin Murphy products. They smell great, do their job, and last all day. When I discovered they were now being sold here in Corpus Christi, I rushed to stock up on my fave. I combine a bit of this with my Deva products to add a bit more hold to fight the frizzies.
Product available at Blowdry Therapy, $27.50

Eminence Citrus Lip Balm
The salt water does no favors for my lips, which often become dry and chapped. This lip balm with Shea butter provides plenty of conditioning, a perfect sheen, and a bit of plumpness.
Product available from Eminenstore.com, $24

Los Poblanos Lavender Salve
Crafted since 1930 with only 5 ingredients, this salve is the seamless end to a long day. I use it on feet, knees, elbows, and hands to keep dry skin at bay, and the lavender scent adds the perfect aromatherapy for drifting off to sleep.
Product available at Los Poblanos Farm Shop, $22

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
After years of shopping to find just the right amount of coverage that matches my skin tone and has SPF protection, my search finally came to an end with this beauty of a product. It evens out my skin while keeping me looking fresh and natural. Is love too strong a word?
Product available at Dillard’s, $46

Herbivore Citrine Oil
I’ll be the first to admit I may have a slight obsession with lotions and oils. The first and last part of my day includes moisturizing with a few favorite products, and this one is a must. It smells fantastic, and easily absorbs into my skin while providing a beautiful glow.
Product available at Eleanor’s, $44
