Sometimes, a little peace and quiet can go a long way. With a new year in full swing, setting time aside to reflect on what was and look forward to what’s to come is imperative. Especially after all the holiday hustle and bustle, a reprieve is greatly needed. Here in the Coastal Bend, we have so many options when wanting a quiet getaway to decompress – from local shops and gardens to parks and ocean walkways, there are plenty of places you can go for some well-deserved quiet time.

South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center

The South Texas Botanical Gardens is a Coastal Bend classic for locals and tourists alike. Wandering through their gardens and exhibits is an excellent way to tune out the noise of the world and tune in to nature. We recommend spending time in the Conservatories and Butterfly House, or browsing through the Brennecke Nature Trail. This is the perfect way to disconnect from the stress of everyday life and stop to smell the roses!  8545 S Staples

Eleanor’s Coffee Bar + Market

This local coffee shop has a great assortment of treats and beverages to choose from when trying to get some quiet time in. Quaint, tranquil, and perfect for catching your breath or catching up on a good book, the aesthetic of this establishment is one to be appreciated. The natural light, great music selection, and smell of espresso beans combine to create the relaxing atmosphere you’re looking for.  4231 S Alameda

Antique Row

If you’re an avid thrift shopper, then Antique Row is surely already on your radar. This lane of antique shops boasts a wide variety of items from clothes and accessories to home decor and garden tools. We’ve found that browsing through an endless array of unique items is actually quite relaxing. The decorative pathways in each shop allow for mindless wandering and even momentary time travels that will transport you out of any stressors on your mind. Plus, retail therapy is very much so a real thing.  4325 S Alameda

Bayside Park

Often referred to as the Portland Dunes, this hidden gem of a park offers serene views and an escape from the bustling city. The unique terrain of this park provides a refreshing change of scenery while still featuring a gorgeous waterfront view. Pack a picnic for one and lay out a blanket for a peaceful breath of fresh air.  108 Sabine Dr

Padre Island National Seashore

One of the things that makes the Coastal Bend so unique is its vast amount of oceanic features. The rustling water, sandy beaches, and miles of coastlines are all ideal for some personal relaxation. Plan a solo sunrise trip to the Padre Island National Seashore and marvel in the beauty of the Gulf Coast. Take a seat in the sand to journal, or take a walk down the shores and listen to the sounds of the waves crashing and birds singing. This is certainly the place for serenity. 20301 Park Rd 22
