Whether made with chicken fajita or birria style, street tacos are an incredibly popular South Texas favorite. From taco trucks to taquerias, there’s surely no shortage of tacos in the Coastal Bend. With fresh options and dozens of variations, here’s a roundup of ten tacos to try in Corpus Christi.

Tacobar Street

Tacobar Street is a must-have local favorite, an order of street tacos coming with four tacos with your choice of meat, topped with grilled onion and cilantro and a side of charro beans, rice lime, and salsa. Or if you’re looking for an alternative to a classic street taco, try their Street Nachos that come with “truckmade” chips, queso, beef or chicken asada, spicy mayo, cilantro ranch, cilantro, tomato, avocado, queso fresco, and grilled jalapenos. Location varies.

Southside Tacos

For any serious taco lovers (or if you’re looking to share), Southside Tacos has the perfect option. Their order of TACOS! TACOS! TACOS! comes with 8 total: 2 al pastor, 2 carne asada, 2 barbacoa, 2 pollo asado, with a side of pineapple salsa and pico de gallo. 5717 Saratoga Blvd. Suite 105

Tacos El Tri

For a local classic, Tacos El Tri is the spot to go. With fresh and flavorful ingredients, these authentic tacos come with your choice of meat, cilantro, and charro beans. A fan favorite is the classic carne asada tacos, pairing perfectly with an ice-cold Mexican Coke. 5417 S. Staples St.

Birrieria y Mariscos El General

If you’re a fan of Birria, you’ve got to try Birrieria y Mariscos El General’s birria quesitacos, a cross between corn tortilla tacos and quesadillas. They’ve also got some delicious other options if you’re looking to try something new, like their popular Birria Ramen. 6110 Ayers St.

Taqueria Mi Ranchito

For an authentic meal, Taqueria Mi Ranchito has a delicious option – the Especial Mi Ranchito. The meal comes with three taquitos Mexicanos, with your choice of meat, papa asada, and charro beans. 6116 Ayers St.

Jefe’s Mobile Cafe

From burgers to tacos, Jefe’s Mobile Cafe has it all, but their street tacos are a great choice. With your choice of meat, pico de gallo, creamy chipotle, avocado lime sour cream, queso fresco, cilantro, and a side of charro beans, these tacos are a delicious classic. My personal favorite is the chicken fajita, though. Location varies.

Chaco’s Tacos

With tons of options on the menu, Chacho’s Tacos has something for everyone, but Michael’s Plate is a personal favorite. With three soft fajita tacos, topped with grilled onions and bell peppers and a side of rice and beans, this plate is a delicious option. 3700 Ayers St.

Nano’s Taco Run

Another Corpus Christi staple is Nano’s Taco Run. With more than a dozen taquito options, this is the one-stop-shop for any taco lover. One popular option is their steak taco, deliciously grilled with all the classic toppings. 4722 Holly Rd.

One of my personal favorite spots in town, Acapulco, has some incredible taco options. Their order of Minitaquitos Mexicanos de Asada comes with four mini tacos, your choice of meat topped with grilled onions, cilantro, and lime. 1133 Airline Rd.

El Potro

Another classic taco option is the Mini Taquito Plate from El Potro, where you can get four mini tacos topped with grilled onion and cilantro. One popular way to take it is with beef fajita and add queso fresco on top, deliciously balanced. 1401 Rodd Field Rd.
