Rockport Center for the Arts opened their new exhibit,brRising Eyes of Texas, this past week on March 10th. This is the eleventhbryear the exhibit has brought artistic talent from across the state for a juriedbrexhibition.
The exhibit showcases work from 34 different artists representingbr16 different universities from across the state. Every year, the RockportbrCenter for the Arts hosts this statewide, juried exhibition for bothbrundergraduate and graduate students who are in the visual arts. Three artistsbrare selected from the bunch and are awarded cash prizes of $500, $300, andbr$200.
“This is one of my favorite shows of the year,” says ElenabrRodriguez, the Exhibition Curator. “I love seeing the ingenuity and voices of thebrnext generation of artists and I hope that they come to see Rockport as thebrunique artist colony that it is.”
We caught a glimpse of the exhibit last week while shootingbrfor our April issue and were amazed by the talent seen in each piece. The workbrranges from various different mediums, each unique in their own way. From abrsculpture of a dragon with a frog sitting on its head to a riveting painting ofbrthe iconic Big Blue Crab the hurricane wiped away with the words “Revive”brwritten across the bottom of the canvas—each piece is beautiful.
brbrWith the month of March being National Youth ArtbrMonth, what better way to celebrate our young artists than by checking out thisbrbrilliant exhibition. The show will continue until May 31st, 2017. Check out more information at, rockportartcenter.com.
