In our monthly Table Talk series, we gather food and drink news into one place for your convenience. From restaurant openings and closures to new offerings at local establishments, here’s what we’ve got our eyes on in the Coastal Bend food and drink scene this month.
The Art Center of Corpus Christi’s Newest Dine-In Concept
Housed inside the Art Center of Corpus Christi, Gallery 41 Water’s Edge Grill is set to open this spring. The new restaurant and bar concept comes from CC Turnkey, a family of local hospitality companies such as Diamond Point Catering, The Courtyard at Gaslight Square and Rockit’s.
According to its website, Gallery 41 will offer a “unique dining experience sure to delight your senses,” and the menu is comprised of dishes featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Starters include street corn crème brûlée and oysters while the main entrées contain wild mushroom risotto, espresso rubbed short-rib and other inspired dishes. A variety of soups, salads and sandwiches will also be served. The restaurant addition includes a new outdoor patio overlooking the water and a bar menu with specialty craft cocktails.
Local Barbecue Favorite Moves to the Southside
Salty Oak BBQ, a multiple-time Local’s List winner in the “Best Barbecue” category, is moving its operations to the Southside of Corpus Christi. Previously located on Alameda, the new spot will be at 5649 Saratoga Blvd., across from the Saratoga Town Center.
Salty Oak’s barbecue is made in an outdoor offset pit, with an array of housemade sides that pair perfectly with its pulled pork, marbled brisket and smoked sausage. Famous for its sandwich dubbed the “Big Salty” – which includes all three previously mentioned meats – the new location will still offer the menu folks have come to know and love.
A New Restaurant in Downtown Corpus Christi Offering Mexican Fare
Located at 414 Starr St., Frida’s Mexican Restaurant is officially open for business. The menu features a variety of tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and seafood plates. Shareable options include the Fiesta Platter complete with two mini taquitos, four nachos, two chicken flautas, half-cut quesadillas and smoked sausage served with guacamole, pico de Gallo, rice and beans.
Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Frida’s brings a much-needed breakfast option to the downtown area. Breakfast tacos and various egg-centric plates are accompanied by lighter options such as Greek yogurt, oatmeal and avocado toast.
Central Kitchen Extends Hours
Just in time for the celebration of its first anniversary, Central Kitchen has extended its hours. Now closing at 7 p.m., the new hours allow for later lunch dates, an afternoon pick-me-up or the perfect excuse to grab fresh-baked bread on your way home from work. The local bakery will celebrate its new hours and first year in business this Friday with a free slice of birthday cake for each customer, while supplies last.
