School is almost out for summer and Coastal Bend parents will soon be looking for ways to keep the kiddos cool and entertained. The Texas State Aquarium understands the quintessential need for fun activities which aid in beating the South Texas heat, as evidenced by its new H-E-B Splash Park scheduled completion and open date for this summer season.
Capping off your visit to the Texas State Aquarium with a splish splash at the H-E-B Splash Park has always been a favored hidden gem for locals and visitors alike. However, the current park is 12 years old and in need of a revamp. The new $2.8M project will span 15,000 square feet, making it three times the size of the previous splash park.
Inspired by the aquatic and terrestrial habitats of the Caribbean and its wildlife, the new splash park will feature a multi-level play structure including three large slides and a 350-gallon water dump feature. Tall slides, fun spray features and interactive water activities will appeal to children of all ages, according to the Aquarium.
The new park is designed with parents in mind, too. An array of 30 tables with umbrellas perfect for lounging in the sun and a mobile ordering food service from the Pepsi Shoreline Grill are available within the park. It will be conveniently located to the right of the Aqiairum’s main ramp behind the ticketing booth. Entry to the splash park is included in your admission to the Aquarium and the new, revamped design will add even more value to each membership holder.
The Aquarium has not yet announced the official opening date but stated in a press release earlier this week that it is slated to open in the summer of 2023. Coastal Bend parents rejoice!
