When walking in, the most notable feature is the light shining in from the large windows that decorate the front and back of the house—allowing for natural light to radiate throughout the entire space. The light and cool neutral tones reflect the simplicity and natural beauty of the house, and of the Prewett family as well.
“We love how open and inviting the layout of the house is,” Lauren and Trevor both agree. They say their house has been a perfect place to raise kids and for hosting people regularly. As people who enjoy welcoming others into their home, the house has provided an ideal place for comfortable, regular gatherings with family and friends.
The front room, most often used as a playroom, doubles as the dining area and living space. “As much as I’d love to decorate this room as a formal dining room, we have kept it a big open playroom full of toys; that’s the stage of life we are in right now so we are just embracing it!”
Lauren recalls their need for practicality in a home with three small children. However, the room perfectly marries practicality and natural beauty with light radiating in from large windows overlooking the front yard.
Making your way out of the front playroom into the living space and kitchen area, the whole backyard is visible through the large sliding glass doors overlooking their patio space and green backyard. “I love that you can be in the kitchen, living room or patio and still be a part of the action,” remark the Prewetts in reference to the open floor plan of their house. The Kitchen, with granite countertops, white cabinets, and subway tile combined with the natural light flowing in, makes the space feel open and airy with plenty of room to accommodate people. The patio has a unique seating arrangement with a large farmhouse style table able to seat 25 people. The spacious yard and patio is perfect for casual family friendly entertaining—whether it be kids running around, an outside dinner with family and friends, or both!
Since they just moved in May of this year they have loved getting to make their house a home for their family along with their kids. “It’s just as new to us as it is to them, so it’s been fun getting to do it together,” Lauren said. “With three small children, I have loved adding personal touches for each child, letting them have some say in how they want to decorate their rooms.”
As for the neighborhood, it doesn’t get much better for a place to enjoy Corpus. With the Santa Fe Swim Club, shops and restaurants all within walking distance there are always families walking or riding bikes around the neighborhood, making it a great area to raise a family and meet other families as well. The house has managed to be a family friendly place to welcome other people. It reflects their familial values all while being in a place where they can enjoy where they live and invite others into that as well. The style and décor of their house reflects a simple farmhouse feel that remains practical, but also true to the things they value. Throughout the house are many family photos of their children at different ages, as well as paintings from Lauren’s dad, one of the most notable being a large black and white painting of the house Trevor’s great grandfather built on their family farm. The painting, sitting above their kitchen table, serves as the focal point of the room and speaks to their deep family values and importance of truly making a house a home.
