Last Minute (and local) Holiday Gifts

Still shopping for the holidays? Maybe we can help!

By: Kylie Cooper

If you’re anything like me during the holiday season, the idea of being fully prepared and done with shopping before the week of Christmas is a goal in mind. Yet, somehow it always becomes a distant fantasy juuuuust out of reach. Don’t get me wrong, I tried. I made my lists (checked them significantly more than twice) and yet here we are, just five days from the holiday, and a few more presents must be bought.

So, if you seem to find yourself in the same predicament as myself, and would prefer to buy something local as opposed to express shipping something from the internet, we’ve compiled a few fool-proof gift ideas for you and anyone left on your list.

For the to-do listmaker, poet and/or doodler

Writing my thoughts down on paper – be it a grocery list, a to-do list, prose or poetry – is a crucial aspect of my life.If there is someone on your list who also values the feeling of ink on paper, this Leuchtturm1917 Jottbook is the perfect gift. Available in a variety of colors, sizes and pages, Eleanor’s Coffee Bar + Market has you covered.

For the Coastal Bend fanatic

Let’s face it, we all love where we live, so truly this gift would be great for any of those you have remaining. Local brand, Made in Corpus Christi, has a variety of ornaments (and a ton of other products) all branded with various Coastal Bend illustrations and graphics. This would be the perfect gift for an ornament exchange or even a memorable stocking stuffer!

For the art lover r

Buying art locally is always a good idea. Supporting our local artists means showing how important their creativity and passion is to our community. Amanda Flores has become a favorite of mine ever since we featured her work on the cover of our Artist Issue in 2018. She has a variety of large-scale canvases as well as numerous prints featuring geometric shapes, colors, faces, florals and more.

For the joy-spreading optimist

I’ve seen various renditions of this concept over the years it always brings a huge smile to my face. Local designer, Ila Designs, curated a “compliment card” where you can rip one compliment off and share it with another! This would be a wonderful gift for anyone who either loves to spread joy or could use a little more of it. Best part? This print is completely free to download and print! Ila Designs also has a wonderful collection of various prints, cards, and calendars that would make perfect gifts or stocking stuffers.

For the person who always smells good

Any perfume lovers can be shopped for over at Julian Gold. Their vast selection of designer perfumes is filled with scents of all kinds. Whether you’re buying for someone who enjoys notes of florals, vanilla, citrus or moss, the staff will surely help you find the perfect scent for anyone left on your list.

For the person who’s always cold

Who doesn’t love a cozy statement piece? Even though the temperatures here in the Coastal Bend can’t ever make up their mind, it doesn’t hurt to have a stylish coat at the ready. This teddy bear-like jacket from Jewels Clothing & Accessories is the perfect gift for those who seem to always need a jacket and love both style and comfort all at the same time.

For the skin-care guru

The team over at Halcyon Med Spa is here to make gift giving this season a whole lot easier (and better for your skin). You really can’t go wrong with any product they sell, but the line of Zo Skin Health they carry is one of my all-time favorites. I’ve used various products from this brand over the past two years and truly cannot pick a favorite…but if I had to, the Daily Power Defense has worked wonders for my skin.

For the nostalgia fiend

No matter the preferred taste in music of the remaining people on your list, you’re sure to find something up their alley over at Hybrid Records. I know my mother would thoroughly enjoy Harry Style’s album (sorry mom, I didn’t buy it for you) and yours might too! If not, have no fear, there are thousands of other vinyl to dive through to find that perfect gift.

For the caffeine addict(no shame here)

Local shop and roaster, Driftwood Coffee Company, has a variety of beans for any and all caffeine lovers on your list. Pair with a mug (from them, a local antique store or a local potter) and you’ve got yourself the perfect gift set! This Ethiopian blend is one of my favorites and has the perfect combination of fruity and floral notes!

For the statement-maker

Who doesn’t love a good piece of statement jewelry? This local designer has the most beautiful collection of both dainty and bold pieces. All handmade here in the Coastal Bend, Daisy Holsenbeck’s designs will make that jewelry lover on your list oh-so-happy!

For the lover of home-cooked meals

Local chef, food blogger, and all-around incredible woman, Vianney Rodriguez, has a variety of cook and cocktail books that are sure to surprise any food lover on your list. The Tex-Mex Slow Cooker book has over 100 recipes for the crockpot. From chili and casseroles to sweets and salsas, this handy little book makes for the perfect gift!
