Katia Uriarte’s Go-To Beauty Routine

How the KRIS 6 News anchor curated a skincare routine inspired by her mother’s love for beauty

I was basically born in a salon. Not literally, but my mother has owned her own salon since she was in her 20s. My mom, who is now 77, says customers would push my stroller with their feet while she would do their hair.

My mom is not only a hairdresser, but an aesthetician as well. When we moved to the United States from Honduras, she was in charge of training the new aestheticians at an upscale New Orleans salon. A few years later, she owned her own salon once again, this time in the United States.

For over two decades, my mom has carried her own line of skincare products called MKI New Orleans. MKI stands for Magdalena, Katia, and Ian, which represents my mother, brother, and me. Since the age of five, I have memories of getting facials with my mom at the salon. Skincare has always been of utmost importance to my mother, and let me tell you … she looks amazing for her age.

I’m 45 now, and wish I was meticulous about taking care of my skin, but in all honesty, sometimes I am not. I occasionally sleep with my makeup on (gasp), but when I get home late after the 10 PM newscast, sometimes the last thing I want to do is splash cold water on my face. I use makeup remover wipes when I’m too tired, but at least four times a week I take off my makeup properly by using MKI’s makeup remover, followed by the eye makeup remover, and then moisturizer. This has been my routine since I was 24 and started working in news. And of course, the one thing I think makes anyone look their best is radiance from within: a full heart, peace from within, and a soul that is fulfilled.

MKI New Orleans Gentle Crème Cleanser, Refreshing TonING Elixir, Daily Intensive Moisturizer, and Restorative Night Complex

I’ve used my mom’s skincare line faithfully for 21 years. The Gentle Creme Cleanser does just that; it takes off all my makeup and leaves my skin feeling soft and clean. I follow it with a few sprays of the toner, then always follow with a layer of moisturizer. I swear by these products. They’re without a doubt my must-haves!

Sephora Rose Cleansing Wipes

When I’m exhausted and just want to take off my makeup as fast as possible, I swear by these makeup wipes. When I get home after a 10 PM newscast, I’ll use about 3 or 4 of them to get everything off.

Jane Iredale Makeup Line

When it comes to makeup, this brand is my go-to. My good girlfriend, former KRIS 6 News anchor Stephania Jimenez, introduced me to the Jane Iredale makeup line and once I switched, I was hooked. The brand features clean beauty products that go on with a natural-looking finish. The Glow Time Ethereals stick is a skin-loving, naturally radiant blush and highlighter duo that gives the perfect warmth and dewy finish. A bonus is that this product can be bought locally!

Other makeup products of theirs that I swear by are:

PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation (which has SPF … always a plus), Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream, Great Shape Contour Kit, Full Coverage Concealer, and PureLash Mascara.

Available at Halcyon Med Spa

Monthly Facials from Anthony’s Day Spa

I am a strong believer in the fact that great skin comes from maintaining it with great facials. I try to book a facial appointment with Anthony’s Day Spa at least once a month.

Yearly HydraFacial® from Corpus Christi Institute of Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery

This type of facial is one I try to get twice a year, but certainly at least once every year. The HydraFacial® Treatment uses patented Vortex-Fusion® technology to cleanse, extract, and hydrate the skin. The products used are made with nourishing ingredients that leave my skin glowing and radiant. Booking a facial with Dr. Vijay is always a must in my book!
