Adapting to a “new normal” during a global pandemic means taking a new approach towards everything we once knew, including holidays and how we celebrated. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, some of us are probably rethinking how we can celebrate our moms during a time of social distancing. Fortunately, technology provides ways to still send your mom a gift for Mother’s Day. We’ve come up with 5 creative ways to celebrate your mom this Sunday if you can’t be together physically!
Video Message
Although wishing your mom Happy Mother’s Day in person might not be possible, it is possible to send a recording of you and your family members sharing appreciation. Record yourself on your phone to send mom well wishes, then compile the clips together with customized graphics and text. This gift is sure to be a tear jerker! You know, the happy kind.
Virtual dinner date
FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, and many others offer ways to virtually chat with your mom. If you and mom are in the same city, order from a local spot! With most restaurants offering take-out only, organize a time for you both to enjoy dinner together virtually. You can order from spots offering Mother’s Day Menus, like Bellino Ristorante Italiano e Bottega or order ingredients and meal-kits from places like House of Rock or Corpus Christi Meal Prep. You can even pick up a bouquet from BKK thai kitchen + bar ‘s pop-up flower shop to drop off for the dinner table!
Take a virtual yoga class together
If your mom has always been your go-to yoga partner, tap into a moment of zen and take a virtual yoga class with Waterdog Floating Yoga or the Yoga Studio of Corpus Christi. Not only will you be able to spend quality time with your mama, but you’ll also get in a moment of relaxation and a workout all in one!
Decorate mom’s front door
Visit your mom with a drive-by parade or celebration at her house to say Happy Mother’s Day. You can surprise her with a creatively decorated front door or a beautifully potted plant. You can order a pre-made sign from Board and Brush or a kit for the kids to make something at home. Another option is a beautiful potted plant in one of the many unique and locally-made ceramic pots from Wildflowers to add mom’s front porch.
Host a virtual happy hour
Raise a glass virtually to the woman who raised you! Order craft cocktails to go from somewhere like The Post at Lamar Park or a couple of margaritas from Taqueria Acapulco #1 and enjoy 5 o’clock in mom’s backyard! Can’t gather physically? Drop the cocktails off or get them delivered and Zoom or FaceTime. You can even follow along with Facebook Live Video to enjoy happy hour with your favorite local bartenders and enjoy the night with a cocktail in hand.
