May 5 is coming up quick, which means you need to get your Cinco de Mayo plans in order pronto. But first, let’s get one thing out of the way: Though it’s often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in honor of the country’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations, ie our lovely city by the bay.
With that being said, there’s plenty of local places in the Coastal Bend to drink, eat, and enjoy the holiday. ¡Salud!
