If you’ve recently spotted a fleet of cyclists with glowing bikes in the downtown Corpus Christi area, chances are you’ve seen CC LED in action.

With a mission to create an illuminated bike parade and a fleet of LED bicycle rentals, CC LED began hosting “Saturday Light Rides.” Family-friendly evening bike rides that start down Ocean Drive, continue through the Water Gardens and up Chapparal Street—inspired by Houston’s bike scene where the owner and founder Manny tested CC LED’s products.

“We were testing our products, meeting people and I just saw the fun. It’s like being a kid again. I started thinking, ‘why are [so many] people showing up to this?’ And I just kind of fell in love with it. It has become a community…a family.”

CC LED’s power and lighting system provide bicycle enthusiasts and rental fleets with specifically engineered LEDs to flaunt from the wheels to the handlebars. With help from a local manufacturer, CC LED partnered with SKENOS Technologies to create battery-powered LED kits for bikes.

“When you ask how this company came to form and the reason behind it, it’s easy for me to answer,” manny shared. “It was a project for my children, and I wanted to challenge them. Then we saw the opportunity to sell these to people that wanted them, so we created our own battery line, all power ranges. We just had this idea that’s cool for everybody. However, not everybody is going to want to maintain one. [That’s why we offer rentals] so people can have a fun and exciting experience with them.”

Every Saturday at 7:30 p.m., locals, tourists and biking groups from Hype Bike and Bicycle World RGV gather in the parking lot across from Residence Inn on Shoreline. From bicycles to one-wheels and scooters, the “Saturday Light Rides” crew is inclusive of every type of bike and anything that rolls – “even a speed walker,” Manny jokes.

“I am from Corpus, and this is something I just knew we had to have. We have the greatest place to ride in the world. I go to these Houston rides where we go through neighborhoods and other areas. It’s fun and exciting. However, there’s nothing cooler than bay views. Nothing compares.”
