Local book clubs to encourage reading and community in the new year

all book clubs are free of cost and anyone can become a member

The month of January is very familiar with the trembling thoughts of New Year’s resolutions. Don’t worry; sometimes, simply slowing down and reading more often will suffice. Prepare your bookshelf (or your e-reader), here is a list of book clubs in Corpus Christi to help sustain a reading habit in 2025.

Therapy Book Club

Therapy Book Club specializes in bibliotherapy, a creative coping therapy that builds a relationship between books and individuals. Readers engage in conversation based on books in the self-help, memoir and fiction genres with resilience and positive psychology themes. To join, visit its website and leave your contact information with a note about your interest. Meetings are held on Saturdays 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at My Healing Center.

The Favorite Book Exchange

Members give a brief synopsis of the book, all books are placed on a table and everyone grabs the one they are interested in. Show up and bring a favorite book to join; meetings are held once a month at The Annex, and dates can be found on social media.

Silent Book Club

Silent Book Club is a bring-your-own-book-style community that encourages an hour of silent reading, followed by time to socialize. From e-books to textbooks to audiobooks, all types of books are welcome. Connect by visiting a meeting at Coffee Waves on Alameda every second Saturday of the month, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Corpus Christi YA Book Club

From new young adult releases to classic young adult fiction, Corpus Christi YA Book Club has it covered. All are welcome to join via its Facebook group. The group gathers at restaurants for dinner and discussion monthly, generally on a Tuesday or Wednesday at 7 p.m.
