Back-to-School Time at La Palmera

Summer may be winding down, but La Palmera is gearing up for back-to-school shoppers

With more than 100 shops and eateries, the mall is a magnet forbrthose wanting to stock up on the latest styles of clothing, shoes and backpacks,brschool uniforms, as well as new eyeglasses and haircuts for the new schoolbryear.

According to an annual back-to-schoolbrsurvey conducted by the International Council of ShoppingCenters (ICSC), 91% ofbrback-to-school shoppers said they were planning to spend money in brick andbrmortar stores, with 90% saying promotions influence what they buy and thebramount they spend. A majority of shoppers also say August is when they find thebrbest deals.

At La Palmera, shoppers willbrfind shoes and accessories, including backpacks, at Journeys; uniforms at ThebrChildren’s Place, Dillard’s, JCPenney and Macy’s; athletic t-shirts and shortsbrfrom Champs Sports; denim and other clothing and accessories from Aeropostale,brBuckle, francesca’s, H&M, Kendra Scott, PacSun, Tillys, Vans and Zumiez; asbrwell as makeup and grooming products at MAC and Ulta Beauty. The mall is alsobrhome to optometrists for eye exams and glasses as well as full service salons,brincluding Regis Salon.

“Back-to-school time inbrgeneral is one of our busiest times of year,” said Fred Walters, La Palmerabrvice president and general manager. “When you’re buying so many different typesbrof items, perhaps for more than one person, coming to an enclosed center likebrLa Palmera makes it more convenient.”

Although the mall will see back-to-school shoppers throughoutbrAugust, many plan their shopping around Texas’ tax-free weekend. This year’sbrevent, Friday, August 10, through Sunday, August 12, allows shoppers tobrpurchase certain categories of back-to-schoolitems tax-free, including clothing, shoes and some accessories under $100 usedbrby elementary and secondary students.

Select La Palmera retailersbrwill have extended hours during the tax-free weekend and shoppers willbralso find special deals at many stores whose merchandise does not qualify forbrtax-free status. The Corpus Christi Police Department will have officers onbrsite throughout the weekend, helping to direct traffic if needed. Shoppers willbrfind free covered parking in the garage off McArdle Road, as well as valetbrparking for only $5 at the mall’s main entrance by P.F. Chang’s China Bistro.
