Easter is days away, and we’ve already been gearing up to step into abrweekend full of pastels, egg hunts, sunshine and the outdoors! For most, brespecially those with children, the highlight of Easter is the epic Easter eggbrhunt. In midst of this joyous celebration, it can be easy to forget about thebrimpact holiday’s place on the environment. Easter and other holidays generate abrlot of waste. From plastic eggs, and cheap plastic toys, to fake plastic grassbrstuffed in Easter baskets and eggs ,this holiday can result in a whole lot ofbrplastic in your trash can at the end of the day. Thankfully having anbreco-friendly Easter is pretty straightforward. Here are some tips for celebratingbrthe holiday with the environment in mind.

brbr

Opt for Eco-FriendlybrEggs

brbr

Make egg decorating the main activity with paper eggs! They arebrbiodegradable and great for painting together with the family. If an egg huntbris a must, buy eggs made from recycled plastic. They come in multiple sizes andbrcolors and are great to reuse for next year.

brbr

Go with a Classic, Reusable Easter Basket.

brbr

Commercial retailers entice us with character, branded, inexpensivebrbaskets for Easter egg hunts, but the sensible option is to buy a durablebrbasket that you can reuse for many more Easter holidays to come! Find a classicbrwillow basket from a local thrift shop on Antique Row, or perhaps stop in andbrget an embroidered label with your child’s name on it from Stitch It!

Get Creative with your Basket and Egg Stuffers

brbr

Make Easter mindful with meaningful gifts, rather than cheap plasticbrtoys. There are plenty of fun alternatives to fill an Easter basket or eggbrwith. From finger puppets and puzzle pieces to hair clips and lip balm!brCelebrate springtime with seed packs and eco-friendly pots – an eggcellent opportunity to get in some familybrgardening time.

brbr

For basket stuffing, exercise earth-friendly options such as shreddedbrpaper, Excelsior, or even real grass! You can also replace the grass with morebrcreative options like a beautiful scarf or small blanket. The idea is to choosebrsomething that can be recycled, or even better – reused.

brbr

Choose Locally MadebrCandy

brbr

Go local when it comes to chocolate, jelly beans, and other sweetbrtreats. Bourbon Street Candy Co. provides an endless selection of tasty bulkbrcandy, Jelly Bellies, chocolates, fudge, and sugar-free candies. Plus, theybralso specialize in plush stuffed animals, perfect for an Easter basket gift!
