Each of our internship positions includes the opportunity to build or enhance a professional portfolio, inclusion on the magazine’s masthead page and the ability to network with the magazine’s staff. EDITORIAL INTERN
Fall 2026
The Editorial Intern should have great verbal and written communication skills and have confidence in pitching and writing stories for thebendmag.com. Interns are full-time students who can work unpaid for credit through their individual institutions. The ideal candidate would be physically located in the Coastal Bend for the duration of the internship. The editorial intern will be responsible for several assignments, including but not limited to:
- Pitch and write articles for thebendmag.com weekly
- Upload print articles to thebendmag.com with best SEO practices in mind
- Assist in fact-checking print and digital stories
- Assist in editorial photoshoot production and execution
- Maintain the website’s community event calendar
Skills/Qualifications:
- Writing & Editing: Exceptional grammar, editing and proofreading skills, with experience in AP style.
- Content Management: Experience with CMS platforms (i.e., WordPress) for publishing web content.
- Research: Ability to conduct in-depth research for articles, interviews and fact-checking.
- Organization & Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines and work with limited supervision.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating within a team. Capable of taking direction and asking questions to encourage collaboration.
- Previous Experience in university newspapers, literary journals or published writing/editing roles is preferred but not required.
- Must be able to work an average of 10-20 hours a week (flexible scheduling/hybrid work environment).
- Ideally, enrolled in an accredited university/college program to receive credit (optional).
DIGITAL MEDIA INTERN
Fall 2026
We are seeking a proactive intern who is adept at problem-solving and exudes confidence and positivity in all aspects of work life. The digital media intern should have a foundational knowledge of managing a brand’s social media platforms and experience with CMS. Interns are full-time students who can work unpaid for credit through their individual institutions. The ideal candidate would be physically located in the Coastal Bend for the duration of the internship. The digital media intern will be responsible for several assignments, including but not limited to:
- Assist in managing online content on thebendmag.com with best SEO practices in mind
- Craft supervised social media content for distribution on various platforms
- Engage with the brand’s social media audience and help monitor inboxes
- Attend photoshoots, community events, etc., to capture video content for Instagram Reels
- Organize and maintain additional tasks given by the leadership team
Skills/Qualifications:
- Content Management Systems (CMS): Experience or familiarity with WordPress or a similar platform for creating and managing web content.
- Social Media Management: Ability to create content for social channels and familiarity with management tools like Later or Hootsuite.
- Content Creation: Experience with copywriting, basic video editing and related content creation skills.
- SEO & Analytics: Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and experience analyzing audience traffic data using tools like Google Analytics.
- Digital Content Strategy: Ability to repurpose print content for digital platforms and assist with email marketing.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating within a team. Capable of taking direction and asking questions to encourage collaboration.
- Organization & Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines and work with limited supervision.
