If you’ve found yourself wondering what might happen to the land on North Padre Island that once served as the location for the old Waves Resort Corpus Christi, you now have an answer: Whitecap NPI.
Whitecap NPI is a master-panned destination resort and residential community developed by Ashlar Development and owned by Diamond Beach Holdings. The development’s vision includes 240 acres of land featuring 600 residential options such as single-family homes, villas, condos and cross-generational housing, many of which will have access to canals perfect for boating and water sports. Individual yet interconnected neighborhoods will be created within the residential community by utilizing island enclaves, bridges, boardwalks and various walking paths. The development will also include a town center, mixed-use area, and dining, entertainment and retail options.
Whitecap sets a new standard for coastal living,” said Steve Yetts, president of Ashlar Development. “The focus is on building up, not out, and enhancing the feel of community through both canal– and street–level experiences. Whitecap is destined to become the most influential coastal community on the Texas Coast, if not the country.”
In addition to residential options and amenities, the development will include a resort-style hotel, dry stack marina and yacht club, cafes, shops, galleries, and the Whitecap Nature Preserve.
At a groundbreaking event held earlier this month, representatives from Diamond Beach Holdings, Ashlar Developments, Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo and International Bancshares Corporation celebrated the city’s first-ever master-planned coastal community within city limits. A ceremonial blessing of the land conducted by Tasalgu Elder, Larry Running Turtle Salaz, also occurred.
“Today marks a significant milestone for the future of Corpus Christi and North Padre Island,” said Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “Whitecap NPI is a catalyst for economic activity on the Island and mainland and will benefit residents and visitors. This high–quality development will bring new and expanded services, improved water quality and infrastructure and significant revenue to the city.”
The first of four phases of the development project has officially begun. With the plans in place, Whitecap NPI has the potential to bring major economic impact and enhanced quality of life to residents and business owners on North Padre Island. In addition, visitors will have new lodging and amenity options unlike anything else in South Texas.
“We are excited to celebrate this incredible milestone and the positive impact that the development will have on Corpus Christi and the Texas Gulf Coast,” said Dennis Nixon, CEO and Chairman of International Bancshares Corporation.
