Mother’s Day is this weekend and, if you’re opting for abrcozier celebration this year (which might be necessary due to the predicted weather),brthen might we suggest a movie marathon? What better way to celebrate all thebrawesome things your mom has done for you – you know, like bringing you intobrthis world, for starters – than by basking in the glory of these iconic moviebrmoms.
1. Juno
brbr
Okay, Juno is one of my all-timebrfavorite movies. There was this one summer where me and one of my best friendsbrwatched it every single day. This is the perfectbriconic mom movie. The film was released over a decade ago but it still holds itsbrown when dealing with not only teenage pregnancy, but by painting an incrediblebrportrait of motherhood and how scary it can sometimes be. There are several iconic moms in this film. Juno herself (Ellen Page), is followed through the movie as she experiences carrying a baby to full-term, the hardships of teen pregnancy, and choosing adoption. Juno’s mother (Allison Janney), is a brilliant example of a supportive step-mother amidst difficult times. And then there is Vanessa (Jennifer Garner), who ends up adopting Juno’s baby. The film follows her journey through Juno’s pregnancy as well and how the adoption process can be difficult and scary.

2. Lady Bird
brbr
Both Saoirse Ronan and Greta Gerwig takebrthe crown for my #womancrushwednesday pretty much every Wednesday, but that’sbrnot the point here. Lady Bird, one of the most important movies of 2017 (in mybropinion, but probably in yours too), is the perfect movie to watch with mombrthis weekend. While the story mainly follows a coming of age trope of Christinebr“Lady Bird” McPherson, the relationship between her and her mother, portrayedbrby Laure Metcalf, is extraordinarily authentic and really hits home. Metcalf’sbrversion of motherhood is seen in such a raw way that helps us all remember justbrhow much our mothers love us.

3. Freaky Friday
brbr
I firmly believe you can never say you’ve seen this movie too many times. When mother-daughter duo Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Anna (LindseybrLohan) accidentally end up switching bodies after fighting inside a Chinese restaurant, brthe two must come to terms with their differences in order to switch back. Once inside the other’s body, the pair is able to experience what life is like for the other – i.e. mean girls and rude teachers at school and the anxieties that come along with a high school crush vs. a stressful career, misbehaving children, and a new love late in life. In the end, the two realize just how strong their love for one another is and switch back bodies. Sincebrboth Curtis and Lohan ultimately end up playing the “mom” in this film, webrshall hail them both as iconic movie moms.

4. Mamma Mia!
brbr
Okay, this might seem like an obvious choicebrfor a list as such. But, how could we ever make a list of iconic movie moms andbrnot include our queen Meryl Streep. I’m sure you’re all familiar with thebrpremise, but Donna, who Streep portrays, is the epitome of a strong, brindependent mother who’s love for her child is fierce and unwavering. The filmbrfollows her daughter’s journey to finding her real father, but we hail the matriarchbrat the center of the story for this article’s purpose.

5. The Shining
brbr
Admittedly, this might notbrseem like the ideal celebratory movie, but we need not make a list of moviebrmoms without including Wendy Torrance. Her untiring love for her son andbrthe lengths she goes to in order to protect him are pretty astounding. She’sbrbrave and resilient against both her crazy husband and the malicious ghosts. Ibrmean, she knocks her own husband down the stairs to protect her son…and if thatbrdoesn’t give you the qualifications to be an iconic movie mom, I’m not surebrwhat does. Oh, and mom, if you’re reading this, don’t worry, I won’t make you watch The Shining on your special day.
