With warmer temperatures this weekend, it feels like Spring is just around the corner, and with a crazy winter storm behind us, enjoying the outdoors is all we want to do. Here's our round-up list of this weekend's events.
28th Annual Stage Door Canteen
Wear your dancing shoes for a magical evening of music and nostalgia at the USS Lexington Museum's 28th Annual Stage Door Canteen tonight from 7-10 pm. Dance to the USS Lexington Big Band Orchestra's sounds and local talents, including Flicka Rahn and Victoria Majors performing classic hits from the WWII era. Appetizers, a cash bar, and entertainment will be provided, with complimentary valet parking offered at the base of the pier. Masks are required. 26th Annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup
Do some good this Saturday and join the 26th Annual Billy Sandifer Big Shell Beach Cleanup hosted by Friends of Padre on February 27 from 8 am-2 pm. Since 1995, the Big Shell Beach Cleanup occurs once a year in the Big Shell portion of the Padre Island National Seashore (PINS). Since its inception, over 11425 volunteers have removed 2,996,000 pounds of trash from this remote and wild stretch of 4 Wheel Drive Only beach. To learn more about this event visit their website.
Port Aransas Nature Walk
Explore the Nature Preserve at Charlie's Pasture as you have never seen it before! On Saturday from 8-10 am, enjoy a moderate guided hike and discover flora and fauna throughout the preserve. The paved path leads through several different aspects of our Coastal Prairie habitat. Register before 5 pm on Friday to join the nature walk and experience the best view of the Island. The program will be limited to 10 people. Register online now.
Southside Farmers' Market
Rain or shine, shop local produce, honey, eggs, jams, snacks, jewelry, crafts, and more at the Southside Farmers' Market this Saturday from 9 am until noon at The Market on Everhart. COVID-19 precautions such as social distancing are in place, and masks and gloves are encouraged. For more information visit their Facebook page.
Curbside Popcorn at Aurora Arts Theatre
The Aurora Arts Theatre is hosting a benefit Curbside Popcorn event this Saturday from 11 am-2 pm. Only $8 a bag, popcorn sales will go towards a charitable donation to a fellow AAT member in need. Donations will also be accepted. Park at the front of the theater, call the Box Office at 361-851-9700, and receive your bag of delicious, buttery popcorn at your door!
February BUS Shop
Our favorite new pop-up market is back! The February BUS Shop is this Saturday from 12–4 pm. Fill up on local cuisine, the best drinks from BUS, and live music, all while shopping your favorite local vendors. A+ Cookies, Chia, Cookie & Crumb, Threads, and many more will be in attendance. Good Market at Nueces Brewing Company
Good Market is also making a comeback this Saturday at Nueces Brewing Company, beginning at 2 pm. Support the Foster Angels of South Texas by enjoying local art, more than 30 vendors, vegan goods, and of course, Nueces Brewing Company's very own delicious BBQ and craft beer. Celebrate the Year of the Ox
As part of the Lunar New Year celebration, the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures and Education Center is kicking off the Year of the Ox with a Wings Over Society performance on Sunday, February 28. The Museum opens at 2 pm, and the show begins at 6 pm. Bring your own snacks and drinks for a celebration in the courtyard.
