Here, Music Comes First
By Jessie Monsivais
The musical highlight of the year, Corpus Christi Songwriters Festival (CCSF) is just around the corner. The third annual event will be held February 14-16, featuring nearly fifty nationally, regionally, and locally acclaimed songwriters are performing their original music and the stories behind them. Throughout the three days, seven different venues in downtown Corpus Christi will give traveling festiva-lgoers, and visiting songwriters alike, the unique opportunity to see all that our sparkling city by the bay has to offer.
Award-winning songwriters such as Ordinary Elephant, Adam & Chris Carroll, Jaimee Harris, George Ensle, and indie icon Ben Kweller will headline the event.
“The main focus of CCSF is to offer a unique opportunity for audience members to engage with the writers of their favorite songs, in a listening-room, intimate environment, unlike any other local festival,” says Jimmy Willden, CCSF Director. “Here, the music comes first.”
Corpus Christi Songwriters’ mission is to spread the interest in original music around Corpus Christi and its surrounding areas. Founded in 2014, the non-profit organization hosts several events throughout the year. In The Rounds is an open stage for original music only held on the second Sunday of every month at Executive Surf Club. CCSW Presents dedicates the spotlight to some of the best and unique original music in the region. CC Songwriters also hosts workshops and retreats throughout the year, and the Corpus Christi Music Awards & Conference held in February.
The Songwriters Festival will feature four extensive workshops on songwriting, publishing, and marketing at the Bay Jewel on Saturday, Feb. 15, hosted by Adam & Chris Carroll, George Ensle, Jana Pochop, and Sean Gasaway, as well as a special Corpus Christi Music Awards ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 16.
