A New Kind of Book Club01/09/2020 05:23PM ● By Jessie Monsivais
Not that making resolutions in the new year is a must (some even find it rather silly), but if reading a little bit more than usual is something you're setting your sights on this year, we've got just the thing for you. Joining a book club is a great way to stay on track when it comes to expanding your literature intake and also serves as a vessel to stay connected, expand your social circle. Stacie Richline at Waterdog Floating Yoga is bringing new adventure through reading in 2020 with her new Water Dog Book Club, where she aims to bring together the local community; yogis; book (and wine); lovers.
Stacie says the book club is open to anyone in the community, especially book lovers, yogis, and friends of Water Dog Floating Yoga.
“As for merging a book club with Water Dog: First of all, I am a book worm and I loved the idea of merging my two passions of reading and yoga,” Stacie says with excitement. “I saw it as a way of providing more of a sense of community for our yogis and friends. Along with another way to bring us together outside of a regular yoga class, where we don't always have time to chat and get to know each other.” Uhm, yeah, count us in!
Intended to be light-hearted and fun, Water Dog Book Club goes through a set of discussion questions that allow for a productive and enjoyable conversation about the book. The club will be a communal way for members to enjoy a common interest and each other’s company, amongst literature, snacks and wine.
“I am hoping the members lead and guide the direction of the book club and our future book selections.”
The first meeting takes place Sunday, January 12, at 6:15 pm at Mesquite Street Studio. This month’s book pick is Love with a Chance of Drowning by Torre Deroche, a love story and fast-paced travel memoir that takes place on a sailboat. The club plans to meet every other month to allow plenty of time to read the monthly pick. If you’re interested in joining and would like to be added to the group, send a message to @waterdog.cc on Facebook.
