The Bailando International Dance Festival of Corpus Christi celebrates its 20th anniversary at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on October 3 – 5, 2019. The three-day international dance festival will host masterclasses in a variety of dance styles, taught by internationally renowned professionals in the field of dance, represented by over 14 universities and cities nationally and worldwide.

The festival hosts two evening concerts on Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4 to celebrate aspiring choreographers and their original works. A Gala Celebration on Saturday, October 5 will fill the evening with contemporary and classical dance works performed by the Corpus Christi Ballet, Alcorta's Compañía de Danza Folklórica, and an exceptional performance by Corpus Christi’s local dance students from area schools, along with Ad Deum Dance Company from Houston, Ballet San Antonio, and international guest artists, Danza Universitaria and IMAGODANZA from Costa Rica.

“The Bailando International Dance Festival wants to be a part of the growth of our young dancers,” says Jilissa Cotton, Producer of Bailando and Director of Dance at TAMUCC. “They get to work side by side with up to 40 professional dancers and teachers in just two days. There aren’t many dance opportunities like this in the U.S. or Texas. It is a unique and special opportunity for the Coastal Bend to embrace.”

Founded in 2000 by Nancy Sulik, Artistic Director of Concert Ballet, and Jilissa Cotten, Director of Dance at TAMUCC, the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization was established to bring in quality artists from around the world to perform and teach master classes during a three-day event, showcasing aspiring choreographers and offering performances to the Corpus Christi community. Creating outreach opportunities for the dance community in Corpus Christi are significant aspects in the mission of the Bailando International Dance Festival.

Partnering with the School of Arts, Media, and Communication at TAMUCC and with the City of Corpus Christi the festival continues to grow into an international destination for dancers and audience members. The Bailando International Dance Festival provides the South Texas community with culturally diverse works of dance performed by companies and individuals throughout North and Central America.
