By Jessie Monsivais
Join Yoga Studio of CC, Crossroads Yoga, and Youga Yoga for free community classes on Sunday, June 23, 2019 for the fifth annual International Yoga Day.
The ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice of Yoga originating from India provides many benefits that can help us lead a healthy life with the best version of ourselves. Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root Yuj, meaning to yoke the body, mind, and spirit. The translation is commonly interpreted to symbolize the union of the body and consciousness. Around the world yoga continues to grow and rise to popularity through various forms.
Established in 2015, the International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness for the many benefits of the holistic practice. "Yoga benefits the mind by cultivating harmony and peace,” shares Gretchen Weber, co- founder of Crossroads Yoga. "Yoga is a great activity for you if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease. Yoga also gives you strength, flexibility and mind body awareness. Yoga can also help your spiritual health by increasing your energy, reducing stress, fatigue and helping you sleep better all which contribute to a happier life."
The theme for International Yoga Day 2019 is Climate Action. "Yoga definitely strengthens resilience and adaptive capacity to change of climate or the change that occurs naturally in day to day living," Gretchen continues.
