With more than 100 shops and eateries, the mall is a magnet for those wanting to stock up on the latest styles of clothing, shoes and backpacks, school uniforms, as well as new eyeglasses and haircuts for the new school year.

According to an annual back-to-school survey conducted by the International Council of ShoppingCenters (ICSC), 91% of back-to-school shoppers said they were planning to spend money in brick and mortar stores, with 90% saying promotions influence what they buy and the amount they spend. A majority of shoppers also say August is when they find the best deals.

At La Palmera, shoppers will find shoes and accessories, including backpacks, at Journeys; uniforms at The Children’s Place, Dillard’s, JCPenney and Macy’s; athletic t-shirts and shorts from Champs Sports; denim and other clothing and accessories from Aeropostale, Buckle, francesca’s, H&M, Kendra Scott, PacSun, Tillys, Vans and Zumiez; as well as makeup and grooming products at MAC and Ulta Beauty. The mall is also home to optometrists for eye exams and glasses as well as full service salons, including Regis Salon.

“Back-to-school time in general is one of our busiest times of year,” said Fred Walters, La Palmera vice president and general manager. “When you’re buying so many different types of items, perhaps for more than one person, coming to an enclosed center like La Palmera makes it more convenient.”

Although the mall will see back-to-school shoppers throughout August, many plan their shopping around Texas’ tax-free weekend. This year’s event, Friday, August 10, through Sunday, August 12, allows shoppers to purchase certain categories of back-to-schoolitems tax-free, including clothing, shoes and some accessories under $100 used by elementary and secondary students.

Select La Palmera retailers will have extended hours during the tax-free weekend and shoppers will also find special deals at many stores whose merchandise does not qualify for tax-free status. The Corpus Christi Police Department will have officers on site throughout the weekend, helping to direct traffic if needed. Shoppers will find free covered parking in the garage off McArdle Road, as well as valet parking for only $5 at the mall’s main entrance by P.F. Chang’s China Bistro.
