Memorial Day Weekend in the Coastal Bend

The sun is shining, the temperature is scaling near 90 degrees, and here in the Bend, even though it’s technically spring, we are in a summer state-of-mind. Memorial Day is this weekend, which means summer’s approach isn’t the only thing we are celebrating. There are many events around town honoring the brave men and women who fought and sacrificed while serving in the US armed forces. Here’s to kicking off the long days and endless sunsets and honoring those who have selflessly defended our country’s freedom.  

1. Hooks Home for Memorial Day Weekend        

The Hooks are home for Memorial Day Weekend! Get your tickets for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night the Hooks take on the Tulsa Drillers as a part of a six-game homestand. Celebrate with the 2nd annual Dia de los Hooks Festival. The event includes two firework shows, postgame concerts by El Dusty and Rob Baird, and premium giveaways on Saturday!

2. Memorial Day Weekend at Texas State Aquarium

Check out the new Memorial Day Experiences at the Texas State Aquarium beginning this Saturday through Sunday. The experiences include their new National Geographic photo gallery, the H-E-B Splash Park, and they will be debuting the newest 4D film! The Aquarium has extended their hours, so you and the family can delight in all of the exhibitions!

3. Opening Day at Schlitterbahn

Schlitterbahn is gearing up for its much-anticipated re-opening! The blues and classic rock trio, Antisocial Science, will be taking the stage at the Bob’s Cabana Bay Pool area from 1pm-4pm. More live music hits the Veranda Patio stage later in the evening from 6pm-9pm playing 70s and 80s hits. Start the summer off with a splash on the island!

4. Rockport Festival of Wine & Food

The 22nd Annual Rockport Festival of Wine & Food brings over 2,500 visitors from across the country and invites everyone to indulge in wine tastings, lectures, food vendors, live bands, shopping, and more. Wine can be purchased by the taste, bottle, or case.

5. The Geeky Caldron: A Harry Potter Quiz at Cassidy’s Irish Pub

Harry Potter fans rejoice! Hosted by the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quizzes, Cassidy’s is putting on a special Harry Potter themed quiz session this Saturday at the Pub. This special edition quiz is for muggles and wizards alike, but absolutely no magic is allowed! Registration of your team online prior to the event is required. Find the event on Facebook for all rules and details.

6. Memorial Day Block Party Downtown

Kono Pizza Food Truck is hosting a Memorial Day block party across from Rebel Toad Brewery! Grab a delicious pizza cone or a dessert cone while you’re enjoying the Memorial Day Weekend.

7Venus Lily Duo at BUS

Wind down on this Sunday Funday with the musical stylings of local acoustic neo-soul duo, Venus Lily. Their feel-good vibes are perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon, and at the new local favorite, BUS, no less. Grab one of their signature cocktails, sit back and relax, and groove to some good tunes.

8. Memorial Day Tribute at the USS Lexington

Honoring America’s fallen heroes, the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay will host a wreath laying ceremony on Memorial Day. To celebrate this very special day honoring the men and women who have selflessly defended our country’s freedom, the museum invites all veterans and families of military members to join in the event. There will be a Flag Retirement on the Flight Deck following the ceremony. This event is kid friendly!

9. Memorial Day Ceremony at Sherill Park

In honor of our dear departed Veterans and Fallen Heroes, The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi is conducting an hour-long Memorial Day ceremony. The Veterans Band is a non-profit organization who performs Veteran ceremonies, Military Change of Command, community events, and Military Reunions at state and national events.
