Julian Gold’s “Modern Coco” Rouge Runway
● By Kylie Cooper
Chanel 75 cocktails, Parisian bites, and CoCo Chanel inspired looks—can you think of a better Saturday? Twice a year, every year, Julian Gold puts on a runway show to showcase some of their favorite pieces in the shop and this year, they are going bigger and better.
Previously known as the “Hip Event”, this year, the show aims to reach a wider array of people and allow the show to be both bigger and more fun for everyone! “We [used to call it] the ‘Hip Event’ because the clothing the models wear come from our contemporary department, which is our younger, more ‘hip’ department,” says Alexa Gignac, Stylist and Assistant Store Director. She goes on to explain that changing the name of the event to “Rouge Runway” has allowed them to let their audience know this show isn’t like their typical runways.
The show acquired its theme by pulling inspiration from Julian Gold’s fabulous Store Director, Kari Morrison. The store wanted to honor Kari and all she has done as she will retire after 38 years with Julian Gold. The final scene in the show will pay special homage to Kari.
So, why Coco Chanel you ask? Kari’s four grandchildren call her Coco. However, not only do they refer to her by the name, but the store likes to think of her as their own modern-day Coco. “She is the face of Julian Gold – Corpus Christi,” says Alexa, “If you have ever seen her, you know she is always so beautiful and chic. She has a classic, elegant style.” She paints us a more vivid picture as she describes Kari’s favorite colors to wear being black, white, pink, newly, and marigold, and her favorite accessories being pearls, pearls, and more pearls.
The Rouge Runway, totaling 43 different looks, will feature three separate scenes within the central theme of Coco Chanel—a multi-colored scene, florals, and all black and white. Aside from the runway, the event will feature drinks, snacks, a live DJ, and a special in-store discount to those attending. The show will be held at Julian Gold – Corpus Christi, located in Lamar Park, from 12 to 2 PM, this Saturday, April 21st. This is one event you are not going to want to miss!
